The objects of the society (as set out in the Trust Deed) shall be ‘to provide and maintain a museum in Watchet for the benefit of the education of the public and to encourage the study of matters of local history of Watchet and district’.
The general day-to-day running of the Museum is under the care of the Museum Committee, comprising 10 duly elected members of the Museum Society.
Their remit is to maintain a smooth-running business which upholds the objects of the Museum, by overseeing stewarding duties, curatorial duties and financial management.
The Watchet Market House Museum was established in 1978 by several like-minded individuals including Leslie Wedlake, Ben Norman, Michael Sully and Harold Turner, whose collective vision and determination have created the wonderful Museum we have today.
