Charitable objects

The objects of the society (as set out in the Trust Deed) shall be ‘to provide and maintain a museum in Watchet for the benefit of the education of the public and to encourage the study of matters of local history of Watchet and district’.

The general day-to-day running of the Museum is under the care of the Museum Committee, comprising 10 duly elected members of the Museum Society.

Their remit is to maintain a smooth-running business which upholds the objects of the Museum, by overseeing stewarding duties, curatorial duties and financial management.

The Watchet Market House Museum was established in 1978 by several like-minded individuals including Leslie Wedlake, Ben Norman, Michael Sully and Harold Turner, whose collective vision and determination have created the wonderful Museum we have today.  The current Committee strives to maintain their standards and ambition, thus ensuring the Museum continues to attract many new, and returning, visitors from all over the world.
